A friendly environment. Helpful, cheerful staff. The room was cozy and a little romantic, bed comfy, food excellent. We've eaten there in the past and we're glad we took the chance to stay for two nights this time. We will be going back.
There was a bit of damp behind the curtains, but what do you expect in such an old building? And the bathroom floor was a bit slippery. Overall, I'd have to struggle to find anything to complain about.

The location was superb. Being inner city there was no parking at the hotel but there was a paid car park not far away, an easy relaxing walk to hotel through the beautiful botanic gardens.
The only thing we were disappointed with was in was the photo when I booked, it showed the bathroom with a bath. I had booked this as a surprise for my partners Birthday and did send messages letting the hotel know it was a special occasion. When we arrived, we didn't have the bath, just a very small dark shower room. We were told, we should have requested it. I didn't realise that. Aside from that, the room was so historical and such an interesting place to stay.

Perfect location, lovely accommodation with real air of history and homely feel. Staff were attentive when required and very friendly. Very difficult to find any minus points so I won't. Highly recommend this as a place to stay in York if you like something with a charm that corporate hotels cannot match.

Staff were friendly and , lovely outdoor area .
Fish pie was bland, very little flavour, the mattress was hard.
Room was freezing and different room to what was pictured on booking.com and we paid for a nice view but their was work being done so view was mostly scaffolding.
