The Oberoi, Mauritius

Best sea in Mauritius in October - as the winds come from the East. Lovely, smiley service by every single personnel. We had one mishap, but the hotel dealt with it very elegantly and made up for it. Delicious food.

Not much to see when snorkelling off the hotel. Please bare in mind that there is general bleaching in the corals in Mauritius, so if you have been to the Red Sea, Thailand or the Maldives you might be disappointed. This is clearly not the fault of the hotel.

We had a wonderful stay at the Oberoi, and it was the staff above all who made it so special. From the moment we arrived, everyone went out of their way to make us feel genuinely welcome. The food was excellent throughout; both On the Rocks and The Restaurant served amazing food. What touched us most was how kind everyone was to our 7-month old son. The team made sure he always had food suited to his stage, took time to play with and entertain him (special shout out to Pamisha!), and treated him with real warmth. Travelling with a baby can be stressful, but here we felt completely at ease. Also, the villa with the private pool was spectacular and we really loved spending time there.

Overall impression Service and friendliness of the staff were excellent throughout our stay. All requests an questions were handled in a very friendly, professional, and solution-oriented way. The garden area was beautiful and very well maintained. Lunch and dinner quality were very good.

Value for money Compared to other hotels in a similar price category, we noticed several aspects where the price-performance ratio did not fully meet expectations. The overall experience did not consistently match the premium positioning. Expectation vs. reality Photos on Booking.com and the website appear to be outdated and do not fully reflect the current condition of the property. The beach presentation suggests one large beach, whereas in reality there are two smaller beach sections. Rooms & facilities Some signs of aging and maintenance issues were noticeable: Dripping ceiling after rainfall Broken stone in the bathroom Walkways and certain areas showing visible wear These details reduced the premium feel expected in this price category. Breakfast experience Breakfast did not meet expectations for a hotel in this category. We were looking forward to a good coffee from a proper espresso machine; instead, a not very good machine coffee was offered initially. Italian coffee from the bar was only available upon explicit request. The pancakes were unfortunately among the worst we have experienced — very dry, tough, and inedible. Restaurant experience (On the Rocks) Food was very good! But during dinner at the "On the Rocks" restaurant, multiple mice were running around between guests’ feet while eating. The situation created a very uncomfortable and unpleasant dining experience. Early check-out breakfast The early check-out breakfast was appreciated, but limited to pastries only. A more balanced and substantial option would have been expected in this price range.
