Ryde Castle by Greene King Inns

The hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay very good. The rooms were large, well decorated and comfortable.

Can’t think of anything

Reception was prompt, friendly and helpful. I was offered a room with a sea view at no extra charge. The room and bathroom were clean and well presented. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet, allowing for a good night's sleep. The cooked breakfast was made to order and was very good.

The bath was very slippy so I had a little difficulty in standing up when I was ready to get out. A notice in the bathroom stated that a non-slip bath mat was available from reception but that was too late. Perhaps a non-slip mat could be provided in each bathroom. I had the choice of eating dinner in the bar area or in a separate restaurant, so I chose the bar which was livelier. This involved several visits to the bar to order drinks, then the main course and finally to pay. When I was told the amount, it was far more than I was expecting and a glance at the itemised bill revealed it contained several items that I had not ordered. The matter was resolved amicably and in the end my bill was reduced by over £20. If I had not queried it, I would have ended up paying for someone else's meal.

Nice restaurant and lovely breakfast. Also had a roast in the bar area attached to the hotel which was lovely.

We had a Seaview which was lovely but the weather turned cold and the wind came in the bedroom. Without the heater on and the curtains closed we would have froze.

The breakfast options before and after 9am were confusing. First morning we had a bad breakfast experience. Second day was very good
