About this hotel
Dating back to 1438, the historic Cathedral Gate is in the heart of Canterbury. Once slept in by pilgrims, the hotel predates the adjoining gateway to Canterbury Cathedral and features wooden beams and sloping floors.

I knew we would be close to the Cathedral but didn’t realise we were next door! We were in the very heart of this beautiful city. The hotel had everything we needed and we loved the quaintness of it. The slopey doorframes and floors tell you how old the building is. Breakfast overlooking Buttermarket was a particular treat. It is rare nowadays to receive good quality biscuits and access to free bottles of water. The staff were all so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. We had travelled from Liverpool for a funeral but this hotel certainly brightened our stay.
There are a lot of stairs and a walk across an open rooftop which was nasty in the rain but the close up view of the Cathedral kind of compensated for this.

This beautiful, hotel is full of character and charm, overlooking the cathedral its self from many rooms. After parking the car Dean was on the lookout for us to make sure he could help us up with our cases. Such a lovely and enthusiastic reception, and he gave us lots of recommendations as to where to eat and experience authentic pubs. The room we stayed in was Nightingale, and the cathedral can be seen from the window, beautiful with the sun rising on the bell tower. Breakfast was fresh and we could have as much fresh coffee as we wanted, with fresh fruit salad and croissants and toast , it made it a perfect stay. I definitely recommend this hotel, it's a must! 😊

The breakfast was fresh and delicious. There were toasts, croissant, a selection of jams, coffee, hot chocolate, yogurt and fruits besides a variety of tea. The waitresses and staff were very friendly. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, it is walking distance from West Canterbury station, next to the Cathedral entrance, shops, attractions and coffee shops. We had a great time and will be back to stay at Cathedral Gate again.
They could serve some ham and cheese for breakfast, even if they needed to charge a bit more.
