The receptionist told us to check the Google ourselves when we asked her if anything to suggest to do in that area or where were the buffet restaurant. We would expect her to make us feel welcome and show us the activities available around there.

You can’t beat the location! We had magic views of Mt Cook from our room.
I prepaid for our accommodation, which I thought was quite expensive, but unfortunately there is no choice at Mt Cook. In addition at check-in we were charged a $300 deposit for incidentals to my credit card. By the time I got to my room this had been deducted from my credit card account. Having a drink at the bar we were required to pay as you go. When we checked out I enquired about the deposit refund and was told it would take 6-10 days to appear in my account which I pointed out was unacceptable as it took less than 5 minutes to take out of my account. In fact it took 6 days before it came through.
I personally think this is totally unacceptable, guests should not have to in effect give an interest free loan to a hotel on top of expensive accommodation!

Location.
The room wasn’t ready even though we were well after check in time, no apology just told to come back in 15 minutes. The bed sheet wasn’t all the way to the bottom of the bed. The food was terrible at chamois bar and grill. I was astounded when the bar staff advised they had no Pinot noir. I mean this is New Zealand, some of the best Pinot noir in the world! How can they have none!
