Hotel Retama is a fantastic choice if you're looking for a proper place to stay in Aguas Calientes. It's a well kept hotel, in one of the quieter corners of the town, while keeping close to all the cafes, restaurants, and facilities.
You may find that all the hotels have mixed reviews in Aguas Calientes - we found this a bit confusing when finding where to book. AC is a town fit into a fairly small area, with high humidity. Double glaze windows practically don't exist in Peru, nor are things soundproofed to the same degree as you may be used to. I think you'll find many reviews complaining about these - valid issues, but not unique to that particular hotel.
Hotel Retama is actually better than most on these, however. Our room was by the river, which meant we didn't have to hear the hustle and bustle of the town. The hotel is also next to a small garden square, so we never struggled to get a peaceful moment. (Most hotels in AC will not be well situated enough to offer this) The rooms were well kept, and airing the room out was easy with our big sliding windows. And the bed? Honestly the best bed we've had on any holiday ever. Peruvians pride themselves on good bedding - but this was next level. No idea how you guys got that shipped into such a remote location - but kudos to you! The breakfast here is also a cut above the competition, with a more varied range of veg and hot food. My wife has a gluten allergy (Coeliac), and she never struggled to find food for breakfast - mainly focussing on fried potatoes, avocado, fruit, and the yoghurts.
The staff here are attentive, cheerful, and helped us multiple times with local knowledge. After a rough journey in, we couldn't have been luckier to be catered for by you guys :)
If you want a proper visit of AC instead of a cheap sleep, this is the place to choose. And AC is worth spending a few days at!
Our shower room did the job well, but it wasn't as well furnished as it could be. I think it's more than acceptable for the price in Aguas Calientes - but if you're picky about your bathrooms, it's worth checking.

O espaço interno do quarto, as instalações do banheiro o café da manhã são todos ótimos. Esse hotel foi com a diária mais cara da viagem com a minha noiva no Peru, porém foi o melhor dos 4 hotéis que ficamos. O café da manhã era cheio de opções, os funcionários foram extremamente solícitos, mesmo após acabar nossa diária, guardaram nossa mochila e esquentaram uma refeição que tinha trazido do dia anterior, e eles tinham guardado na geladeira do hotel, além do respeito e cordialidade natural dos funcionários. O chuveiro esquentava rápido e fácil, além do TV com streaming no quarto e duas camas bem grandes no quarto.

We had a pleasant stay in Aguas Calientes. The accommodation was comfortable, the host was kind and helpful, breakfast was decent and offered some variety, and luggage storage was available.
The main downside was that the room smelled of stale dampness, which affected the overall experience. The room was also so cold that we did not try the shower, so we cannot comment on whether there was hot water. On two occasions during the night, someone entered our room by mistake. I do not necessarily think this was the host’s fault, but it was unpleasant. It might help to add the floor number more clearly, as in some countries the ground floor is numbered 0 rather than 1, which can cause confusion in Peru.
