Nob Hill Hotel

Location was close to Union Square, great for sightseeing and experiencing San Francisco.

Sound proofing on rooms not sufficient to enjoy a good nights sleep. Could hear conversations and alarms in the room next door.

We just finished our stay at the Nob Hill Hotel in San Francisco, and I have to say, it was a much better experience than I initially expected. Having read some of the reviews beforehand, I was apprehensive about staying here, particularly regarding the location, but those concerns proved to be largely unfounded. We stayed in a Deluxe King Room, which was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Housekeeping did a very good job throughout our stay, and the room was clearly well looked after. The hotel is situated in Lower Nob Hill, relatively close to the Tenderloin area. Some reviews make the surrounding area sound particularly unsafe, which I feel is an exaggeration. Like any major city, San Francisco has areas that are better than others, and it is sensible to plan your routes and be mindful of your surroundings, particularly at night. However, this is true of many cities, and we found the hotel itself to be well maintained and well positioned for exploring San Francisco. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at the Nob Hill Hotel. It was clean, comfortable and well looked after, and I would encourage anyone considering staying here not to be put off by some of the more negative reviews about the location.

Breakfast is fairly basic, with no hot food available, but the selection of pastries, toast, cereals and fruit was sufficient to start the day.

I accidentally left behind a big bag of toiletries and other items in my room. I came back the next day asking if the housekeepers may have found it. I understand that sometimes things get lost or discarded by accident and it's my fault that i left it behind. However the bag was very heavy and contained makeup, full-size bottles of shampoo. I'm a housekeeping manager so I am aware of how the procedures go for lost and found items. Any items that are not travel sized bottles or obvious garbage are always reported and logged by the housekeeper. The man at front desk was not very helpful from the start. I informed him what i left behind in the room and what my room was as well as the name on the booking. He had a sarcastic demeanor that gave me the vibe that he did not intend on helping me. It felt as if he felt like I was fabricating this information to get free lost and found items. He asked my room number but didn't check my ID to see when my booking was or verify that I stayed with them. I described the bag very well (usually you don't need that detailed of a description, for the item gets logged with a room number and date found along with item description) but I described it in detail anyway before being asked and he continued to ask me to add more detail. That along with the way he was speaking to me was why it felt more like a questioning suspicion rather than him trying to help me, especially since he didn't attempt to verify my booking. He then went somewhere to check for it which took all of about 20 seconds. It's possible he did actually check but given the interaction it felt like he didn't intend on finding this for me. The hotel I work at keeps items for 90 days so the guest is able to claim it so i will try for a third time to get my things back. I think this hotel needs to improve their procedures for lost and found items, whether its in the housekeeping department or front desk.
