About this house rental

Summary:

Hikari House is shaped by wabi-sabi, the Japanese idea of simplicity and natural imperfection, on five acres of untouched Mojave between Copper Mountain and the boulders. Plaster, Shou Sugi Ban and artisan details meet walls of glass, and a 20-foot bifold door folds the living room into the view. Dip in the saltwater plunge pool facing Copper Mountain, eat under 100-year-old olive trees, then sink into the sunken fire pit under dark skies. Three queen bedrooms. Imperfect, on purpose.

The Space:

Hikari House is a modern desert home on five acres of untouched Mojave desert, inspired by the Japanese wabi-sabi idea of simplicity and natural imperfection. Plaster finishes, Shou Sugi Ban accents and artisan details meet walls of glass and a 20-foot bifold door that opens the living space to the views. Outside, a saltwater plunge pool, a sunken conversation fire pit and two outdoor dining areas sit among boulders and ancient olive trees. With three queen bedrooms and two full bathrooms, one bedroom in an attached glass casita, it suits small groups of up to six. Mix something at the 1970s bar and carry it down to the conversation pit.

-Outdoor Amenities-

Five acres of open Mojave desert surround the house. The private saltwater plunge pool, UV and ozone filtered, sits at the heart of the property with views toward Copper Mountain and the boulders. Eat beneath 100-year-old olive trees or on the back patio, and gather in the sunken conversation pit around the fire as the sky goes from gold to starlit black. Lounge areas offer both sun and shade, and the dark skies are some of the clearest in California.

-Living Area-

High ceilings, full walls of glass and a 20-foot bifold door open the airy living space to the desert. A 65-inch Frame TV and a Sonos surround system are on hand, along with books and games.

-Kitchen and Dining-

The kitchen centers on a sleek island, with a Gaggenau refrigerator, Bosch 500 and 800 Series appliances, an induction cooktop and a convection oven. A vintage 1970s custom bar just off the kitchen is stocked with cocktail and wine glassware, and a coffee station has a Fellow drip coffee maker, a grinder and Joshua Tree Coffee Co. coffee. There is an indoor breakfast bar and two outdoor dining areas.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Hikari House has three bedrooms, each with a queen bed, organic mattress and bamboo linens, and two full bathrooms. The Primary Suite has sliding glass doors to a sunrise-facing outdoor space, a dedicated workspace and an ensuite with dark plaster, Shou Sugi Ban accents, heated floors and a walk-in shower. The Desert Nest has sculpted textured walls, blackout curtains and views of sage and olive trees. The Horizon Room is an attached casita off the front patio, wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass, with blackout shades and its own mini-split; it has no attached bathroom. The second bathroom has a skylight.

-Surrounding Area-

Hikari House sits between Copper Mountain and the boulder landscapes of Joshua Tree, with downtown Joshua Tree, downtown Twentynine Palms and the West Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park for the days.
