Dirty and poorly maintained

Too upset to notice

My family and I recently stayed at this property early October, and we were very disappointed. The advertisement describes the property as “lavish” when it could be more accurately described as “decrepit”. Whilst any reasonable person would expect an older house to have some issues, you would not expect a shattered glass door, faulty locks, kids’ areas covered in thick layers of dust and cobwebs and leaking taps. These are things that can be upkept no matter the age of the house. Upon arrival we were met with dead grass, an overflowing pool and the backdoor left unlocked (after we attempted to use the provided pin to get in, which was apparently incorrect). Within minutes of walking inside our feet were filthy from the floors and ants covered the interior of the kitchen. All the pots, pans and utensils were dirty with various states of food left on them. Upon further inspection we noticed the aircons were mouldy and covered in dust and the ensuite bathroom had a roughly put together cover over the old tiles (in place of replacement). When paying $1000 a night, you would expect that some of this money would go towards upkeep and repairs, it is evident that is not the case. We also asked for a discount considering the state of the place however that was not considered. We searched for alternative accommodation however given it was peak season we were unable to find anything else suitable. Some of my other family opted to go home instead of staying in the house, which is disappointing when you travel over 8 hours for a holiday. It is further evident that the cleaning services they have employed do not pay attention to any sort of detail. We contacted the number listed and spoke with someone (not believed to be the owner) and raised our concerns. They advised someone would come and clean the house. The following day cleaners arrived and ensured us that they would clean the entire house, including the floors.
