NOT HAPPY - HAD TO PAY ADDITIONAL MONIES TO GET ANOTHER PROPERTY!!

we didn't get any message from the host to confirm any check in
we turned up at the property and looked in window to find paint tins, all bedroom furniture on top of beds as if it was being decorated.

Where do I start…
We booked this property for a surprise birthday weekend, and unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
The photos on the listing did not accurately reflect the property. The garden was untidy and overgrown, giving a poor first impression.
Communication from the hosts was non-existent. Nobody contacted us before or after the booking was made. We arrived at the property at the 3pm check-in time but had not been sent the lockbox code or received any check-in instructions. Looking through the windows, it was obvious the house wasn’t even ready for guests – the beds hadn’t been made, and it didn’t appear as though anyone was expecting our arrival.
We repeatedly tried calling the contact number provided and sent emails, but the phone number wasn’t recognised and we received no response. We even spoke to the neighbours, who confirmed the property is regularly rented as a holiday let, but they had no contact details for the owners.
We then spent around three hours trying to get hold of Booking.com while desperately trying to work out what to do. To make matters even more stressful, our guests were due to arrive within the hour after travelling four hours by car for what was meant to be a surprise birthday celebration.
Booking.com eventually informed us that the owners had breached their terms and conditions because they had failed to respond to Booking.com regarding whether the booking was actually going ahead.
As a result, we were left with no choice but to find alternative accommodation at the last minute, which meant paying a significant additional amount to ensure the birthday weekend could still go ahead.
Overall, this was an incredibly stressful and upsetting experience. The lack of communication, the property not being ready, and the complete absence of any support from the hosts made this one of the worst booking experiences we’ve ever had.
