A truly authentic experience in Komodo Village
Staying at Modo Homestay was a true experience, not just a place to sleep. If you are looking for luxury, this is probably not the place — but if you want to experience the real life of Komodo Island and meet the people who live there, I highly recommend staying here rather than just visiting for a day trip.
Akbar was incredibly helpful, kind and welcoming from the beginning. We had the chance to meet his wonderful family and experience the village and the daily life of the local community. We were even invited to join the Komodo Festival, which was a fantastic and unforgettable experience that we would never have had if we had simply visited for a few hours.
And a special mention to Akbar’s wife, who prepared really tasty and delicious home-cooked food for us. It made the stay feel even more welcoming and personal.
For us, staying overnight made a huge difference. We had more time to understand the place, walk around the village, meet local people and experience Komodo beyond the usual tourist visit.
I also strongly recommend asking Akbar about trips around the island. We did, and it turned out to be one of the best ways to explore the area. Through him, we met our guide Sabirin, who was a great guy and an excellent guide. He made exploring the island even more enjoyable and personal.
Overall, Modo Homestay is about the experience, the people and the place, rather than luxury or comfort. If you want to see the real Komodo, meet local people and have an experience that feels genuine rather than purely tourist-oriented, staying here is absolutely worth it.
The main thing that concerned us was the amount of rubbish and pollution in some areas near the shore. Komodo is such a unique and beautiful place, with extraordinary nature, local communities and of course the Komodo dragons, that this issue really deserves immediate attention.
We understand that this is not something Akbar can control on his own, and we could see that he genuinely cares about the problem and is already trying to fight it. We really hope that, in the future, he can continue to contribute even more to protecting and cleaning the area.
This place deserves to be protected not only from environmental pollution, but also from irresponsible behaviour by visitors and people who live there. The nature, the local people and especially the Komodo dragons deserve a clean and properly protected environment.
We hope that more people, the local community and the authorities will work together on this, because Komodo deserves to be preserved for future generations.

Fantastic Experience
Akbar and his family welcomed us wholeheartedly into their home. We had a fantastic few days with the help of his brothers and boat crew. We saw turtles, manta rays, amazing coral and Komodo Dragons!
It was wonderful to stay in Komodo village and experience how the community lives, and everyone was so welcoming.
If you want a truly unique experience, definitely book this homestay.

Great location
The house is located in the Komodo village, just a few minutes walk from the harbour. The room was simple, but good and it was nice that we had a separate bathroom and a terrace where we could have our coffe! Akbars wife also prepared all the meals during our stay and they were very delicious.
Akbar also took us trekking and showed us the village and explained a lot about the community and introduced us to the people. This was something we really appreciated and it was very nice to get so many interactions with the locals.
To keep in mind when visiting the Komodo village is that you need a ranger to walking around and see the Komodo dragons (roughly 240k IDR). You also have to pay the fees into the island (250k IDR/person).
Then you have to get a boat to and from the Komodo village, which is not the easiest, since there is mostly day trips there. There is a wooden boat from the harbour (takes around 4h) and costs 200k IDR/person. However this doesn’t go every day so if you come just for one night, you have to find a different solution.
There are multiple operators and the prices can vary very much. We had to spend quite some time and energies to go to the different providers since the options provided by the host ranged from 5 million IDR (shared boat) - 12 million IDR (private boat) for two people (including a day trip to island such as Padar).
Eventually we managed to get to 1.5 million IDR in total back to Labuan Bajo but be aware that they will push the margins as up as possible 😉

Exceptional stay with an amazing host and experienced world class nature as well as local culture
We had the most amazing experience at this home stay. Akbar was truly an exceptional host who had already thought of all the details and made sure we had the best time possible. Despite our last minute booking, Akbar was able to help us arrange a private wooden boat (for a very fair price), which Akbar and his friends used to pick us up from Labuan Bajo when our flight arrived. We were happy to experience some of the best snorkeling spots we had ever been, including some private beaches that were not overcrowded with other tours. The stay at Komodo village itself was a unique experience that we could not have had if we had booked one of the common liveaboard boat tours. Instead, we were able to connect with locals and learn about the story of their village in a very authentic way. It felt more like an invitation to visit their home instead of standard tourist experiences. Everyday, Akbar and his wife prepared delicious home cooked meals. We also appreciated how down to earth Akbar was and enjoyed hearing about his story and dreams, as well as challenges, for Komodo village. We very much support his efforts in helping his community. We would 10/10 recommend this home stay to anyone who is considering visiting Komodo Island and would like a more authentic local experience.
If you are looking for a luxurious experience without interest in connecting with local culture and people, this might not be the place for you. We personally did not have anything we did not like about our stay :)

Neni to levná záležitost.

Merci beaucoup !
