Komodo Island vacation is excellent. The only downside is Rusde.
The experience would be fabulous if I had chosen a different captain than Rusde.
Rusde does not own the place you will be accommodated at. The house which you see on Booking is owned by sister of Aziz. We were lucky so much to stay at Aziz’s own beautiful house as the Booking house was occupied. So, I cannot comment on the Booking house. The house of Aziz was just lovely. Food was delicious.
Aziz took us to the Komodo Park (he is a ranger there) and it was excellent. He is a great host.
Komodo Village stay was a perfect idea, you can immerse therein and feel the vibe of this unique island.
Rusde is brother of Aziz’ s wife and we felt the whole 5 days he simply did not like our family. We felt he wanted only our money and frankly it was a bit weird.
Imagine that you spend with your captain (in our case, Rusde) basically the whole Komodo trip as he runs the boat to ride you around for the whole days. So, the bad choice of captain can leave you with mixed feelings, despite the unique and overall positive experience of Komodo.

Authentic local experience
The homestay itself is nice- you essentially get the top floor of the house: 2 bedrooms (if you book x2), living room with sofa, dining table, wrap around balcony. The bathroom is very basic: a squat toilet and shower (no sink), so not appropriate if you are a bit of a princess traveller. The food was great, lovely breakfast and dinner (rice, vegetables, fish, egg). Awesome location being able to stay in Komodo village.
Although the homestay itself was great, you need to consider how you will arrive and spend your days here. You could get the local ferry boat to the island which can be quite long/crowded and then spend time wandering round the village, getting a guided tour with komodo dragons. If you book this homestay, you will be offered a 2 day private boat tour- to be picked up from the mainland and showed the sights, and dropped back at the mainland on the last day. There were positives and negatives to this: it's quite pricey but it is private. It's a very basic wooden boat with a loud engine (bring earplugs, and you are sat on cushions on the floor of the boat). It is not a 'polished' tour, it is more authentic/local which can of course be a good thing. The attitude of our guide was a little off-putting, at times we felt uncomfortable which is the only time we felt like this in Indonesia.
Overall the homestay was great. Saw some amazing things on the tour. I wouldn't rush to recommend specifically to friends however.

Rosdin and its team picked us up at Labuan Bajo harbor at 5pm approx. and got on his boat for 3h to the komodo island. B
The family gave us access to the whole 2nd floor of their house (2 bedrooms with fan, 1 living room, balcony, turkish toilet + shower, no sink). They made sure we had everything we needed. The view and the location, which is right next to the komodo dragon park, was perfect. Note that the refrigerator and other amenities are in the kitchen which is occupied by the family. The lady of the house was really kind and boiled our eggs for our lunch - I would not of ask to use the kitchen for my own purpose.

A Truly Authentic and Heartwarming Stay in Komodo
We stayed here for five nights as a family, and it was an unforgettable experience. From even before our arrival, our host Rudes was incredibly attentive, ensuring we felt completely at ease throughout our journey.
The fully customized private tours allowed us to relax and enjoy quality family time at our own pace. In the crystal-clear waters of the beautiful beaches, we were amazed to see an abundance of marine life, including tropical fish, manta rays, sea turtles, and even dolphins. Our tour to see the Komodo dragons was equally fantastic; accompanied by an excellent ranger, we were able to observe the dragons thoroughly and comfortably.
The meals provided were absolutely delicious, and the staff's dedication and hospitality truly made our stay exceptional.
More than just a sightseeing trip, this experience offered us a close-up look at authentic island life. The local people are wonderfully simple and friendly, providing us with many meaningful insights and reflections. If you are looking for a journey to discover the "real" Komodo Island, I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
