After booking a room on Bookings.com about a month in advance, we were excited to fly into Florida and attend a festival in Daytona Beach. On the day we were to check in, I received a call from the owner of Blue Wave. He stated they were overbooked but they had one room nearly finished for us (we were to check in in less than an hour). He said they just needed to set up the bed and hang the TV. We were fine with this. Then he said we needed to pay a $130 cleaning fee before we could check in. He also said there is normally an additional pet fee but he would waive that since our room was not quite ready. After hanging up it occurred to me that there was absolutely no additional charges mentioned at the time I booked the room. I called Bookings to see if I missed something. I was told that the owner was not allowed to charge us more after we booked the room--and we were paid in full. Bookings then called the owner to make this point on our behalf. At this time we are literally minutes away from the Blue Wave (a 45 minute drive). The owner absolutely refused to let us check in without paying $130 more dollars. He tried to blame the "miscommunication" on Bookings.Com. I travel a great deal and book rooms and apartments often. I have never had an owner try to charge me for fees that were not part of the original agreement. I told him that people book rooms based on total cost and that this was a fraudulent business practice. He disagreed. Fortunately we were able to stay with a friend, but if we did not have a friend we would have been in a big bind as all the hotels/rooms in Daytona were booked for the festival. I refused to pay his fraudulent fees. CUSTOMER BEWARE!
