From here, it’s just a few hundred meters to the kilometer-long sandy beach at Schaabe, and the small harbor is also just a short walk away. Soak up the sun, take a walk along the crystal-clear Baltic Sea, and enjoy the seaside atmosphere. Despite its quiet location, Glowe offers restaurants, cafés, and shopping options. South of Glowe lies Spyckersche Lake, home to Spycker Castle, built in 1318, which now serves as a hotel. Also nearby is Dinosaur Land, where you can marvel at the mighty prehistoric reptiles up close and in full size (these are models). On the nearby Jasmund Peninsula, you can explore the national park with its UNESCO-protected beech forests and unique chalk cliffs. At the National Park Center, you’ll also learn all about the formation of the chalk coast and gain insights into the island’s natural environment. If you’re interested in history and/or culture, then you should definitely visit the Störtebeker Festival. Every year, a new story about the life of the legendary pirate is told on the open-air stage in Ralswiek. With naval battles, staged fights, and a grand fireworks display to cap it off, it’s worth a visit every year.
