The idyllic hamlet of Hintergschwendt is situated on a plateau (800 m) above Lake Chiemsee, between Aschau and Bernau. A paved mountain road leads you up into a picturesque mountain landscape that captivates with its tranquility and close connection to nature. Here you’ll find just three farms, many cows, and the Gschwendtnerhof with 26 individually managed vacation apartments, including the “Berglodge Chiemsee.” Mountain lovers appreciate the direct access to hiking and biking trails, ski tours, and cross-country ski trails. The ascent to the Kampenwand is particularly popular; it entices visitors with breathtaking panoramic views and mountain huts serving Kaiserschmarrn and Kaspressknödel.
On days with bad weather, the common room offers billiards, foosball, table tennis, and a small wellness area with fitness equipment and a sauna. In the summer, you can relax on the lounge chairs in the communal garden and enjoy unforgettable evenings at the outdoor grill. Just a few minutes’ drive away is Lake Chiemsee, offering a wide range of water sports (SUP, sailing, boat rentals), cultural events (Herrenchiemsee Palace), and family-friendly excursions (climbing garden, fairy-tale and adventure park). Set out directly from the house for a hike up the Kampenwand or a mountain bike tour. In winter, when snow conditions are good, you’ll find a well-groomed cross-country ski trail right outside the door, or you can go on a ski tour. Feel free to store your sports equipment in the ski storage room. We recommend traveling by car. One free parking space is available per vacation apartment.
Welcome to the Berglodge Chiemsee. In the winter of 2024/25, our non-smoking vacation apartment was extensively renovated in the Alpine Upper Bavarian style with great attention to detail. Enjoy the first rays of sunshine on the 20-square-meter terrace overlooking the vast plateau. Only the cowbells break the idyllic tranquility on the east side of the house. Furnished entirely to the owners’ taste, you’ll experience the same comfort as at home: extra-high mattresses, hypoallergenic duvets, a hygienic shower enclosure, a high-quality kitchenette, and many extras like a yoga mat and a hot water bottle. A special kitchen highlight is the air fryer, which lets you whip up your breakfast egg at the same time as your rolls, among other things. The spacious living and sleeping area features two single beds (90x200 cm, 100x200 cm), a pull-out sleeper chair (80x195 cm, recommended for lighter guests), a closet, and a dining table with a corner bench (seats up to 6 people). Bathroom with shower/tub, toilet, and hair dryer. Bed linens and towels provided. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the house. No pets allowed.
Hintergschwendt is located away from traffic noise, yet central enough to quickly reach the region’s most beautiful destinations by car: Aschau 10 min., Chiemsee 15 min., Kampenwand Cable Car 15 min., Rosenheim 30 min., Kufstein 40 min., Munich 60 min., Salzburg 60 min.
The 26 vacation apartments have all been individually furnished by their respective owners. The communal garden features a barbecue area, wooden benches, lounge chairs, and a swing. In the basement, you’ll find a ski storage room, a laundry room (coin-operated washer/dryer), two pieces of fitness equipment (treadmill and exercise bike), as well as a sauna with showers and a relaxation room. You’ll find a wide variety of shops in Aschau (a large Edeka supermarket, bookstore, toy store, butcher, bakery, etc.) or in Bernau (dm, Aldi, fish market). If you don’t feel like cooking for yourself, take a hike to the Seiserhof or the Maisalm (about 30 min.).
