A terrible and unsafe stay in a poorly maintained property, with an unresponsive owner whose behavior left me feeling li
The location was the best part of the property. I have stayed in this area many times and have always liked it because it feels safe, peaceful, and away from the larger crowds on the busier side. The house is also very close to the water, which made walking to the beach easy and convenient. I also really liked the large patio area and its setup. It was spacious and a nice place to sit outside and enjoy the beachfront location.
Unfortunately, there was a lot we did not like about this property. The overall condition of the house was very poor. There were cracks throughout the walls and floors, and the entire back side of the house facing the beach appeared to have serious structural separation, with part of the wall looking as though it had lifted away from the ground. There were also building materials and chemicals left openly accessible near the laundry room and garage entrance, which was especially concerning because we had children with us.
The house had insects coming in from different areas, including cockroaches. On our final day, we discovered significant wall deterioration and what appeared to be mold inside a closet. I had been feeling sick during the stay, which made that discovery even more concerning.
The internet was another major problem. We had no reliable internet during our stay, and the owner could not be reached to resolve it despite repeated attempts by us, Booking.com, and Oceana Vacation Rental. The Wi-Fi also appeared to be shared from the neighboring property, with restrictions on speed and how many devices could connect.
Many parts of the house looked poorly maintained and simply painted over to make the property appear better in photos. There were holes and cracks in the floors and walls, no dishwasher, and the general condition did not match what we expected from the listing.
We were also disappointed that the rental did not include any passes or access to nearby pools such as Mayan Palace or Luna Blanca. Other properties we have rented in this area commonly provide access to a pool or resort amenities, so the lack of any pool access made this property feel even more limited.
Booking.com and Oceana Vacation Rental were helpful and cooperative throughout our complaints. Our problems were with the property itself and the lack of response from the owner.
