Beautiful historical inn that had homey/quirky features that fit with the town/theatre vibe - rooms named after Shakespearian plays and characters, art from festival drawings, unique decor features in every room. Beds were very comfortable - wish we had time to use the antique claw-foot tub in the room. Liked some of the amenities that were decidedly analogue like a pool table and books and many cozy nooks and chairs to curl up and read, which many guests were doing while still having wifi available. Enjoyed having a coffee station, mugs, wine glasses and fridge and microwave down the hall and coffee and tea being available in the downstairs lounge in the morning. The inn was very centrally located, so if you had time, you could easily walk into town with quaint shops and restaurants and even the Avon theatre. It was in a lovely residential treed neighbourhood and had patios and a screened sunroom which would be nice in better weather.
Information and communication could have been better - I was unable to have my questions about check-in and coffee facilities answered, either through booking.com or directly with the owner. The phone number listed on booking.com's website and app was not in service and I had to do a lot of sleuthing to find one that worked (through another booking site). Even when I left a message on the correct in service #, it went unanswered and the website mentioned nothing about coffee being available, so I brought my own. In one place, it said that breakfast was included and elsewhere that it wasn't (it's not). The website just said that check-in was between 4-6 and I knew we would be there quite late, so I was concerned we might not be able to access our room - no one ever contacted us back to advise. When we did arrive late, there was a sort of suspicious homeless man wandering in the parking area looking into cars which made my daughter and I feel uneasy. Re check in, we found a note on the front door, which was open and the key to our room was in the lock to out room. After our experience with the gentleman in the parking lot, we locked the front door to the inn. Also, the bar fridge in our room was not working. We were on the second floor up a long flight of steep stairs (which I don't believe was mentioned), so would have been impossible for someone with accessibility issues. It is quite pricey considering the lack of breakfast and amenities.
