Disappointing First Impression Upon Arrival in Strasbourg

Location

Even though we informed the host in advance about the need for a sofa bed, cleanliness, and a baby cot—and also received confirmation that everything would be arranged—the situation upon arrival was the opposite. There was no sofa bed, the baby cot was not in the room, and the floors were sticky with dirt,dust and hair everywhere. Mattress/pillows sheets saw better days. The bathroom was especially unacceptable: it was clearly not cleaned, with hair visible throughout and dirty water on the floor. I have stayed in many hotels and Airbnb apartments before globally and have never experienced such a situation. Unfortunately, Booking.com was not solution-oriented in this case. After traveling more than five hours with children, we at least expected a clean place to rest and sleep. Instead, we had to wait until the owner arranged a quick cleaning and vacuuming. Under the circumstances, we compromised and accepted the apartment. At the end of the stay, the Host tried to make a false accusation, claiming that there was one additional adult staying in the apartment. This was incorrect—the person was a child, clearly mentioned in the booking. If there had been any confusion, it should have been clarified directly with us during their visit in the room, rather than later through accusatory "Why"messages. Overall, we were disappointed and angry. With a little more effort and care, the apartment could have provided a much better experience. Note to the Host:: accept the facts and focus on improving the customer experience instead of arguing in the comments.
