Really stressful and badly managed

Perfect location, close to the city centre.

Really bad management No one was there to support us if we encountered any issues with the accommodation. We experienced a problem with the door in the middle of the night, around 2 a.m. We found ourselves stuck inside the flat and could only get out when the door was unlocked remotely, as the key wouldn't work. This issue persisted throughout our two-day stay. My partner began to panic because there were no windows in the flat, so there was no other way of getting out except using the main door. It was a kind of basement apartment, which left me feeling unhappy since the pictures in the advertisement looked completely different from the actual flat. In the end, a very kind local technician managed to come over and assist, but we lost most of our second day after this issue, so my overall stay was completely compromised. I did not enjoy my stay. I spent hours on the phone with the company managing the flats, which is located over 600 km away in northern Italy. I also had to wait for hours for a technician to arrive. They were sceptical about our door issue, so in the end, we had to record various videos to prove it. It was really, really bad and stressful.

Extremely unprofessional management – would not recommend

Location

We booked the apartment for three adults and paid the required late check-in fee. When we arrived late at night, however, the apartment had only been prepared for two people. The sofa bed was not made, and there were no bedsheets, duvet/blanket, pillow or towels for the third guest. We immediately contacted the property. Instead of focusing on finding a solution, the management blamed the cleaning lady, which we found extremely unprofessional. As guests, we booked and paid the property, so who was internally responsible for the mistake should not have become our problem. We were told they would call us back, but they never did. Instead, we received a message saying that nothing could be done that night and that the missing items would only be provided the following day. This was happening around 2 a.m., after travelling, and we were effectively left to find a solution ourselves. We proposed that they arrange alternative accommodation for the night at their expense, but this was refused. Eventually, they agreed to refund us for the night due to the inconvenience. However, the amount subsequently refunded was lower than the value of one night based on the price we had paid, with no clear explanation for the difference. The apartment itself was also not particularly well prepared or cleaned. We noticed marks on the toilet and areas around the kitchen where the cleaning appeared superficial. For three adults staying three nights, only around one and a half rolls of toilet paper and two small sachets of shower gel/shampoo were provided. There was no kitchen paper or even napkins, and the sponge by the sink had already been opened and appeared to have been used by previous guests. There was also no coffee or tea, only sugar, while our friends staying in another apartment managed by the same property had both, again showing inconsistency in how the apartments were prepared.

We really enjoyed our stay, the apartment is lovely and Matera is beautiful.

Lovely apartment in an excellent location. We enjoyed being able to sit outside on the terrace in the sun. Good communication from the hosts, and they opened the door for us remotely when we arrived at the apartment.
