Put me off Airbnb properties for good. Read the fine print and check the cleanliness!

Pretty view from the deck.

Not clean. Husband cut his leg on chair on deck. TV not working as expected. Really noisy road traffic noise. Neighbours dog (across the road we think) barking incessantly. Unable to use the shower as it was so dirty, microwave dirty, plastic plug protectors found in bed under sheets, I could go on! Yes I made a complaint, no they didn’t care. You pay a cleaning fee ($165) in the price and they agreed to reimburse me as a gesture of goodwill (I would suggest if you charge a cleaning fee you should ensure the place is cleaned, maybe my expectations are too high). The cleaning fee wasn’t received and I have been forced to put a claim in with my bank because they just reply with a standard it’s been sent. Spoke to my bank who were able to check their records and no it hadn’t been received! Customer service okay and responded to my messages but I was left with the feeling that I was not a customer, I was simply a money making opportunity and they would move on to the next “customer” quick enough - this place is not cheap for what you get. I asked for a partial refund they said no because I hadn’t given them the opportunity to fix the issues but I pointed out i was told me they would follow up with the relevant people on the following Monday!!! Had to provide a significant amount of client due diligence (ID document, card information and so on). They also take a hefty deposit out of your bank account well in advance of your stay so be prepared for that as well, but it’s okay, as I kept being told it’s in the fine print and it’ll be refunded in about 10 days! Let’s be honest, if you need that amount of fine print to rent out one room with an ensuite (dirty) shower room, there’s something wrong!
