Location, comfortable bed, good shower, decent ale, good food
It’s a tad shabby in places

The food was particularly very good. The Rooms were very clean. The staff were all lovely and were working very hard.
Overall had a magnificent stay. 2 nights is potentially 2 long just in Long Melford. We had room one, which the windows need adjusting as the top sash drops slightly so you can hear the outside noise. If I was being critical the bed would benefit from a mattress topper and new pillows but that's extra critical.

We LOVED our stay . The highlights were the actual building - a charming boutique hotel. Classic English small restaurant (excellent food) downstairs and tiny bar atmosphere. From top management to all staff - wonderful. Always felt "looked after'. Our room was outstanding. Don't feel like a clinical hotel. 10 x better. Corner suite was so cosy , spacious , charming . Decor perfect - authentic and congruent. English breakfasts were a good start to the day. We really liked the broad , inclusive demographic of guests. Location was brilliantly central to Suffolk's offerings...plus the best professional pulling / pouring of a Guinness pint Ive ever had!! Brava!! Unrecognised art form!! BIG THANKS also to Ben - such a welcoming manager AND host!
Not a negative, but just a note for future guests that there is a flight of stairs to navigate to rooms. Staff assisted with luggage upstairs - which was appreciated. Otherwise - really, really happy!!

The decor of the hotel is done to a high standard. We had a lovely view from our bedroom window and it's in a perfect location.
The shower makes a horrendous noise when used which was also the case for the room next door. This resulted in us being woken up when the neighbours used their shower late in the evening. The room was unbearably hot and no air conditioning so the unpowerful fan they provided didn't make any difference. No black out curtains just roll down blinds so they let a lot of light through. Breakfast isn't served till 08:00 and as we were hiking this meant the breakfast which came with the room we couldn't use as we needed to leave off earlier than this. There is no staff on site overnight or until late morning so we didn't realise there was no way for us to check out prior to this as there is no key drop and the door to the whole building doesn't self lock so we had to ring the emergency number, they didn't answer, however they did ring us back shortly after but this did add some stress to the morning not sure on what to do. Not sure this hotel should be a 5 star as compared to other 5 star hotels this didn't match for us unfortunately
