If you want to be in the heart of Amsterdam, this is a great location. Hotel is a bit dated, but rooms are a good size and provide all the basics. Sometimes there was a bit of outside noise at night, but nothing terrible. The rooms don't have AC but they do provide a fan - good enough during regular weather, but it would be uncomfortable during a heat wave.
Breakfast was OK (basic continental food), seating is a bit cramped so avoid peak hours.
As noted by others you have to hand in your key each time you leave the hotel - not a big deal, but a bit different from other hotels.
The stairs are very steep, if you have back/leg issues you'll probably want to use the elevator. There's only one, there wasn't a long wait most of the time but occasionally you may be a bit delayed.
Overall - good, basic hotel in a great location.
