We spent a lovely weekend in Edinburgh thanks to our wonderful stay at the Princess Street Hostel. It is so central to the train station and neighbour to lots of good pubs and bars. The rooms were clean, warm and felt safe. The communal areas were inviting and comfortable. There was lots of good information available as to what to do in Edinburgh city and there was fun art on the walls to give it lots of character.
Staff Thomas and Anika were especially very helpful during our stay and made us feel very welcome. They were both so friendly throughout and really went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.
We stayed in the top room in number 42 and the views from our room were amazing.

The location was wonderful and the hostel was extremely clean with spacious rooms.
Mattress pads could've been a bit thicker. We had a quad for only two people. So, we added the extra mattress and it was perfect.

The hostel was exactly as expected. It was very clean. Showers were great, toilets always had paper and prepared. It was pretty quiet at night and even the day, so the only thing you should prepare for, it's to have some earplugs for the occasional snorer. I could have worked on the living room area without issues. I was able to leave my luggage before check-in and after check-in. Staff managed some cold meds I had to carry around for me without problems and the staff was great!
The location is great by the way, I was able to reach everything that I needed with ease and I always felt safe.
I want to make it clear, I'm not complaining about this, because the hostel is very clear on their descriptions and images so it did not take me as a surprise. Althought it's the reason of why I can't give this place a straight 10 overall. This is mostly for travelers that might not read, because it can be a little annoying if not completely deal breaking for some people, specially if they have mobility problems.
1. Hostel is in the 4th floor in a building without a lift, if you are carrying a lot of luggage, book somewhere else, or know what you are against with. I went up with a medium suitcase+backpack+meds bag. The four floors will be something you'll do every time you come back after walking across Edinburgh which has a lot of hills and stairs, take that into account.
2. No curtains on the beds so it can get a little ackward if you are managing your stuff and people want to sleep/turn the lights off. Mattress a little thin to my liking, but definitely nicer that other places I've been.
