Magnificent property in perhaps the most beautiful little town in France—a postcard view in all directions. Our room looked out on the water . We felt as if we were center stage in this gorgeous little town.

Exceptionally beautiful location with a lovely terrace right on the river. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the views. A centerpiece of the town with a number of nearby restaurants. But of course, everyone staying should reserve at the on-site Michelin starred restaurant (may be going for its second star!) with beautifully conceptualized food and excellent service. The wine selections are particularly outstanding with some very nice local Bergerac choices. The breakfasts are worth the price, which is not that much more than other hotels and way more beautifully served and delicious than the standard buffet. Staff are uniformly welcoming and helpful - they genuinely want you to enjoy yourself. Special shout out to the sommelier and the woman in charge of breakfast - although everyone is great.

Moulin de L'Abbaye is located right on the river in the heart of Brantome. It is a beautiful little town and having spent time in the town on this occasion and before, I would say this is easily the best location. We had booked a room with a river view. On our arrival after a 5-hour hot and sweaty drive, we checked in only to find that the wonderful staff had upgraded us to a 'terrace room'. I thought that was great - till I actually saw the room and the terrace, when I was completely blown away! The room looked out over the hotel's grounds, including the water wheel and the weir and the terrace gave a 270 degree view of the Abbaye, the river, weir and the town. It really was like an eagle's nest and we felt very lucky indeed. The room itself was beautifully done and had a very good shower and all the other facilities you'd expect like coffee-making, writing desk, as well as a little sitting area. The terrace had a hot tub! In addition where were a couple of very comfortable loungers and a table and chairs to boot. Really fabulous.
Breakfasts were magic and the coffee served is also first rate.
Staff were all lovely and so helpful. We really felt as if we were being treated all the time.
The hotel is very difficult to fault!
