Kyoto in general and Gion feel like they are heaving with tourists at times. It can be too much. Though this hotel is located near some major streets, it sits on a quiet side street away from the noise and madness. We slept with the window open and never heard a sound at night.
Soda at the front desk was beyond helpful, sweet and hilariously funny. She made calls for reservations for us and once when she couldn’t get through, she took her bicycle to the restaurant to investigate. This lady is a gem and so is this hotel.
Everything was wonderful.

The hotel is very small, which is preferable . Our room had two comfortable beds, a large balcony that had nice views of Gion & a temple. We loved the traditional Japanese wooden tub. The it's in were nice amenities & helpful staff. We would recommend it to others and we would stay again.
Needed more places to hang our towels in the bathroom.
