All Front desk staff and bell boy are very welcoming and friendly. Location is convenient within walking distance to attractions and eating.
Damp smell in room and general cleanliness can improve.

Lovely comfortable bed, nicely decorated room. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Good location, in the old quarter but on the edge so not loud at night. Also just round the corner from where the sleeper buses drop you so very handy as a solo traveller arriving late at night.

The location was good, being close to Ho Han Kiem (lake), where you can buy tickets for The Hop On Hop Off bus tour. Overall, the staff were very helpful.
We imagine like others, we were beguiled by the attractive room pictures on Booking.com. However, even accepting that the hotel is going to show its best rooms, ours and our son's were disappointing, with no external windows, only to the internal corridor, or ventilation. The main problem though was the very musty smell and the damp feel of the bedding and everything we left in the room whilst out, undoubtedly a consequence of the lack of ventilation. Perhaps that's our fault for booking a hotel in the Old Quarter; certainly we should have read the reviews more thoroughly beforehand. Also, it is fair to say that the Madelise was one of the most reasonable hotels in the area, so we couldn't (and didn't) expect The Ritz or The Savoy, but Grand it wasn't and we weren't sorry to move on.
