A unique and lovely stay

A tiny fishing village with an excellent tavern serving authentic, home-cooked food. The house is absolutely charming. Leaving the balcony door open to a sea view right from the bedroom is pure poetry. The surrounding area is pristine and primordial, unlike other parts of Milos that have now become very crowded.

Unsuitable for tourist accommodation, with dangerous staircase – misrepresented and overpriced

There is nothing to like

We booked Palirroia (High Tide) for 4 nights but ended up leaving after just one. From the moment we arrived (at night), the experience was disappointing. The road to the accommodation is poorly paved, narrow, and difficult to navigate—especially in the dark. It’s 20 minutes away from the main road. Not a great place if you want to explore Milos. The house itself is an old fisherman’s house, which could be charming if it were renovated to the standard required for rental accommodation. Instead, it was very hot inside, it being summer, with no proper ventilation or cooling options. One of the two bedrooms had no lights, and the other had no fan, making sleeping nearly impossible. Add to this a shower which cannot produce sufficient water for showering and the picture is painted of an unpleasant rental. The area smells of manure with the farm behind the property. There were also working working in front of the property in the morning. However where this is a health and safety risk is the 75 degree ladder that has to be navigated to reach the bedrooms. We had to leave the downstairs lights on just to safely get to the bathroom at night because the staircase is dangerously steep and not safe, especially for children or older guests. This is where the property goes from unpleasant to unsuitable. At €275 per night, this was shocking and frankly shameful, given the generally impeccable standard of tourist provision in Greece. The advertising was misleading and the owner was indifferent when asked about it. We pointed out that we had a member of our group with impaired mobility who was at risk trying to access the rooms, and struggled to do so safely but this didn’t seem to matter. The owner admitted to me on the phone that “perhaps we should advertise that it has such a staircase but this is all part of the experience.
