We had travelled to Porto to celebrate a milestone birthday, have some business meetings, and relax after a long year of working hard! The hotel was a special treat! It did not disappoint! Our room was exceptional, huge comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with a lot of toiletries. We had a fantastic view of the River, it was so wonderful waking up every morning to that view! The room service was very good, very responsive and caring staff, we loved the camomile tea bags on the pillows every evening, nice touch. The breakfasts, were simply out of the world, so much choice, the selection was incredible and again the staff were very attentive. This was definitely a memorable birthday and we look forward to returning again!
The steps into both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools were wobbly and a little dangerous, so these needs repairing and they are not safe.

Spectacular setting on Duoro river, main building is a re-purposed palace and is gorgeous inside and out. Good breakfast and attentive staff made this a great stay!
Booked a 'twin room'- bed needed to be divided and re-made, which was quickly done. Rooms could be brighter and lighting setup was quirky.

Everything. An amazing palace on the banks of the Douro with wonderful views (from our room at least). Staff very firndly.

The building in itself is interesting and well renovated
The view from the main terrace and the pool is very nice
The breakfast is good and diverse
Well the attention to details is completely lacking
Surprised this is a Leading Hotel of the World as many features do not qualify
(Food and bar service really bad, no cushions on the lounge chairs at the pool, rooms are OK but really average comfort with poor mattresses, coffee at breakfast is simply not drinkable unless you take an espresso/ cappuccino …)
And the garlic smell around the lawn and pool (because they planted garlic flowers around…)
