Great location in walking distance of the Main Street in Fremantle, also fun staying in a prison!

Amazing location, great experience being able to stay in the prison. Loved the little pieces of history around the location. Check in staff were 10/10

Love the setting and how they’ve turned the place into a YHA. They offer great classes/event. Perfect location, not too far away from everything going on, 5 min walk to the markets if that!
The facilities are great too - showers are clean. Great storage facilities for guests cupboard items (own box in a shelving unit). There’s a shared box for food and donation pile for items no longer wanted. I would really recommend doing a tour of the prison next door - you get a concession fee for staying at the hostel.
Staff were really friendly and happy to help.
Washing machine available $5 per load wash/dry, $3 detergent.
Only two pieces of feedback:
- the door to our room wouldn’t shut properly. Sometimes I would return and it still be left unlocked by someone else in the room leaving and not realising. The door was also quite loud to try and shut properly (force) which was difficult if you’re getting up in the night etc.
- The kitchen wasn’t kept very tidy, I felt quite sorry for the staff having to clean up after other guests. Food was left in the sink and people didn’t seem to dry up after washing, so it was very cluttered. Not the hostels fault!
Not essential, but it’d be cool if there were basic tea bags/coffee granules (saves the short term guests buying a whole bag).

The location was good
- not so clean
- the rooms are horrible in terms of climate control. In our room an AC was running super hot all night; making it impossible to sleep. However, with the AC off was too cold
- only paid per hour parking ($2,90/hr, 8am - midnight). Adds up quickly
- staff is not friendly. Did not apologize at all for the horrible heating/AC, but blamed it all on me
