Varenna is a beautiful spot. The apartment views stunning, but the state of it shabby for the cost.

The Location of the apartment is perfect, very central, a two minute walk to the main square in Varenna. I had booked this apartment before, a few years ago, so I was looking forward to bringing my friends along for some sightseeing. The views from the apartment are stunning. The train station, the Ferry stop, restaurants and bars are all within walking distance. The bars, restaurants offer a variety of food and drinks at a very reasonable price. A small shop, bakery and delicatessen are also found around the main square. The locals are welcoming, very kind and courteous.

I wasn't sent an email with the code to enter the apartment. I called the rental company to ask for the code. The female member of staff I spoke to was very rude, impatient and insisted I did not have a booking. As I came off the call to her I received a call from a male member of staff asking me to pay the city tax. I mentioned to him that I had not received the code and he sent me an email with all the details to enable us to enter the property. I couldn't open the link. I called back and the female member of staff implied that I was "stupid" as the link had been sent to many customers in the past who did not have a problem with the link. She finally shouted the number at me to enter just after 4pm. I paid the tax immediately once I entered the apartment. I realised later that day that I was charged double the amount and had to ask for a refund which took a few days to process. Not the best start to our holiday. The three of us had been travelling since 4.00am. No mention of 3 flights of stairs, and no lift, to get to the apartment (although I was aware). No welcome pack - a few tea bags, coffee, milk, a biscuit maybe, would have been nice. Not even a bottle of water in the fridge on such a hot day. Only one plug in the kitchenette, so cant boil a kettle and have a piece of toast at the same time. The kitchen table leg peeling, the cream kitchen chair covers all stained. The two seater sofa in the lounge area had both seats badly torn. The bathroom dustbin, broken. The light fitting above the mirror in the bathroom also broken and hanging off the wall. The paint pealing off the walls quite badly. The bedrooms had fans. No air conditioning. The fan in my bedroom didn't work properly. One lightbulb also not working. When I opened the cupboard to unpack, there was a pile of stained, dirty towels in there. Not sure if it was blood or make up. It took many phone calls and messages to try to get a least a few of the issues resolved.

Clean, convenient location with 2 bedrooms, one bath upstairs and a large common area with kitchen

Location is convenient, between the main square and ferry. Many shops, cafes, and restaurants are very nearby. A 12 minute walk from the train station with luggage was pretty easy. This is a sleepy town, even on a Saturday night in May. Very spacious with nice views from most windows and the 2 balconies. The bedroom windows are skylights that have shades.

The sofas need replaced. We did sit around the kitchen table. The 2 bedrooms are in an attic type space, which was fine for us, but for people over 6 ft, might be hitting their heads. Lockbox is a bit tricky, but doable.

Wonderful, but ...

Magnificent location and lovely apartment with great views. Good shower, comfy beds, and a great restaurant downstairs.

One small roll of toilet paper for three people for three nights! No welcome folder. No instructions. No condiments whatsoever, not even a teabag! The place was bare bones.

L’emplacement sauf soir ou restaurant ouvert en bas bruit jusqu’à 23h00 après tout est calme

Nous sommes 4 adultes 4 nuits 2 rouleau de papier toilette , aucun savon pour le corps , aucune lavette pour comptoir ou table nous aurions aimé pouvoir nettoyer. Nous avons demander des produits de base la réponse a été maison de vacance . Je loue 3 à 5 fois par année depuis plus de 10 ans et jamais eu de problème avec des articles de base .

Ability to check in earlier, the location was good

The lack of communication with owners, the torn and smelly chairs, the filthy doonas which we had to get out of the stuffed basket, the stained pillow case with no cover, no dish washing liquid cloths, one small roll of toilet paper for 4 adults for 4 days. Be warned there’s alot of stairs. Same problem with other reviews. If you’re asking for comments, listen and correct.
