The hotel was in an excellent safe location close to the old town, shopping mall, plenty of restaurants and public transport. The English Park is only a 5 minute walk and is where the surfers entertain the onlookers by surfing the river. The old town is a 15 minute walk and has stunning historical buildings with stories to tell. Upmarket designer label shops mix comfortably with shopping malls and restaurants, just a pleasure to visit. The hotel old building is a treat and our room was just what we needed for our short stay, The breakfast room and drinks lounge very cosy and inviting, breakfast was very good. The staff were all so welcoming, helpful and pleasant. We would recommend a stay in the Splendid Hotel.

Very nice feel and atmosphere, which made us feel good about being there. It had a lovely bourgeois feel, which is a compliment, with novellas (in German) on the pillows and in the sitting room every book ever written by Thomas Mann, plus a gramophone of the same model that he had. Genuinely a boutique hotel with real character. Room size was only average. The location is exceptional: the Lehel district is upmarket and close to central Munich, while having a villagey feel because that is what it once was, redeveloped in the 1890 as apartments. Just around the corner is a beautiful little piazza area with restaurants, a couple of cafes, and an extraordinary 1900 neo-Romanesque church which is much more interesting than it sounds. The tram and U Bahn were right below (no noise: excellent soundproofing). It can be difficult to find good accommodation in Munich, and this was quite a find. Thoroughly recommended. Exceptionally nice and helpful staff.
The single duvets, German style, were too thin (not proper padded duvets) and kept coming off and disrupting sleep. Breakfast was average but there are good cafes nearby.

It was a great location. The staff were really friendly. We were informed there was going to be scaffolding blocking our window before our stay so they gave us complimentary breakfast. The scaffolding ended up being very minor so was not an issue for us. The breakfast was fantastic! I think we ended up better off for having scaffolding! 😂
The whole bathroom got very wet every time we showered as the shower doors didn’t really seal the shower in very well.

No fridge and only given bottled water for first night so although could drink tap water nowhere to chill it or keep other drinks cold (30 degrees heat)
No tea/coffee facilities
No aircon- fan insufficient and road noise if windows open
No outside space to sit (building work?)
