We stayed 4 nights at the Zen Kyoto Apartment Hotel and loved it!
It’s outside of central Kyoto, but that is a positive. It’s in a peaceful location 5 minutes walk from Takeda station where you can get the train (Kintetsu Line) 2 stops to Kyoto station or direct to Nara, plus the subway (Karasuma Line) which takes you all over Kyoto in 10 minutes for 240 Yen (£1.20 / $1.50).
The hotel feels nearly new, rooms are spacious, with small kitchenette, washing matching and drying room (bathroom) and were great value.
There’s not a lot on your doorstep, but the 7-11 is 5 mins, a big supermarket (Super Matsumoto – Fushimi) 10 mins and a few restaurants within 10 minutes. Our favourite was ‘ ‘Chukaen’ - authentic Chinese food at bargain prices.

We had the most wonderful stay here! It’s right by the train station so easy to get around. The staff were so kind. As well as the koi fish being a highlight of my day giving them some food. The rooms have everything you need as well as a little balcony too.
