Queen’s Mansion is a central feature of the Toul Tom Poung/ Russian Market area of Phnom Penh. I have stayed there twice, once in the hotel and once in an apartment. The apartment was one-bedroom and serviced (603) while the hotel was one-bedroom (304 – I think). They both offered different experiences but are in the same building so the pool, laundry, gym, and breakfast for both will be the same. The apartment itself was spacious with a separate kitchen including two-hotplate gas cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, cookware and dining ware. There are two toilets but only one shower, a lounge room with a TV, a little dining area with a table, a small balcony, and a very small room that must only be for storage. We were quite comfortable for the five nights we stayed there. The location is excellent for restaurants, cafés and shops. This area is a favorite amongst expats, and you’ll see a lot of them walking around. It is also a short walk to the Russian Market, which is worth a visit. You are also close to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. You can even go to the Villa Martial Arts Gym if you fancy trying Kun Khmer – Cambodian kickboxing. The staff are very nice and speak English well. They were very helpful with getting our devices connected to the Internet. They also gave me a free late checkout because my plane was leaving in the evening.
The pool is a little small for the amount of people in the building and is only half covered from the sun. It was full of people when we went so we decided against using it. The view from the top of the building is fantastic though. The gym has everything you need to maintain your workout regime in a push. With only one elevator to service the whole building, it can be a bit of a wait to get to your room. One wonders what happens if it needs repairs. The hotel was a little small and cramped in comparison. It was serviceable but there was not enough space for our luggage, and we never really unpacked or settled into the room before leaving. During our hotel stay, the place was crawling with baby cockroaches, so much so that we kept our luggage zipped up when we were not using it. We mentioned this issue to the staff when we checked out. The apartment did not have this problem. One of the most serious issues here is the breakfast. I don’t like saying this, but it is the worst that I’ve had in a hotel ever. Over the two visits, I’ve seen them try a buffet (a horrible failure outside in the flies and heat – food was terrible and the coffee cold) but that did not work so they went to ordering from a menu. You get six options. The eggs benedict demonstrates that they do not really know what this dish is and seem to be guessing from a photograph. My Khmer companion told me the Lok Lak was worse. We ended up forgoing the free breakfast and eating at a café. The drinks are not included (I have never heard of a breakfast that did not include coffee in the price before). They seem to be pushing the café that is in front of the building but honestly, their beverages are mediocre at best. The Queen is worth a visit but forget about eating there. The airconditioned section that you can eat in is small. You should go for breakfast early if you want to sit in there otherwise you’ll be outside.

Beautiful comfortable luxurious apartment and immaculate housekeeping. Good AC. Great views. Staff did their best with breakfast. Rooftop pool was not really a hit with the kids but it looked nice enough. Gym was reasonable equipment wise but air con should’ve been on a timer as it was suffocating to go in there and try to get the AC to work when it’s slow to get going and puts you off using the gym.
Breakfast was pretty limited and very slow. There are a couple of brilliant places very nearby for breakfast which are much better options.
