About this cottage rental

You’ll be staying in an updated cottage with a long history of offering hospitality to travelers visiting the Causeway Coast. It’s located among farms and cottages, just 1-mile from the Giant’s Causeway Visitors Center. You can enjoy exploring the stunning Causeway Coast by day and spend the evenings at nearby eateries and pubs. If you prefer dining in, the full kitchen makes it easy. A car is recommended, but not required, as you will be just few steps away from the Tonduff bus stop on Causeway Road.

In the cottage, we tried to think of everything that would make your stay enjoyable. A guest favourite is the comfy super king bed in the spacious bedroom! The recently added sleeping nook beside the lounge provides 3 more beds to accommodate your family. In the kitchen you will find a Lavazza pod coffee machine and a classic espresso machine, as well as a cafetière. Wood and firelighters are provided to get your first fire started in the wood stove. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washer-dryer for your clothes. A drying rack is also provided. Is there a freezer? YES - fridge/freezer.

The cottage gives you easy access to 20 miles of gorgeous, scenic coastline. Visit Portstewart and Portrush, Portballintrae, Dunluce Castle, the Old Bushmills Distillery, Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and Ballycastle. A short drive will take you to the Dark Hedges, or you can travel a little further down the coast to the Titanic Museum and the Ulster American Folk Park Museum in Belfast.

If you prefer public transport, there is a bus that passes the cottage every two hours year round, and more frequently in the summer. Check schedules for the 402 to Coleraine and 172 to Ballycastle.

History:
Ruby Stove Cottage has a long history of welcoming visitors to the area, with Sally and Mary Browne (my husband's aunts) offering a cup of tea to many passers-by over the years. They would sit on a bench at the front of the house, and chat with the passing neighbors or the summer visitors. It was easier to walk the roads in those days, as tractors were smaller, and cars were slower and less frequent. There were also no tour buses rushing to the next destination. At that time, the cottage was known as Tonduff, which is the name of the Townland in which it is located.

The cottage has been in the Browne family since the early 1900's. The Brownes raised a family of five children in the original two-room cottage. Everyone worked together on the farm, and the next generations have continued the tradition. The family still have farms on the Causeway Road within a stone's throw of the cottage. The kitchen in this cottage was always a hub of farm life.

Enjoy Golf? There are five 18–hole and three 9–hole golf courses within 12 miles of Ruby Stove Cottage. There are many other excellent golf courses within an easy drive.

Portrush – Royal Portrush Golf Club – Home of The Open in 2019 – 9 miles West

Clean property with everything you could need to self cater, if you don't want to eat out. Parking space directly outside.

The property was clean and comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. The car parking area wasn’t the easiest to negotiate but it was good that it had one. The garden needed a bit of a tidy. The location was quiet enough and near to the places we wanted to look at. There were a few nice places to eat and some shops in Bushmills

Great place and location for the area. Right next to Giant's Causeway and other great sites. The Coastal Route was beautiful.

Ruby Stove Cottage turned out to be far better than expected. We had a wonderfully relaxing week there. All the equipment and furnishings were of top quality and fulfilled all our needs and more! The location is excellent and we were able to access wonderful cliff walks to Dunluce and in the other direction, the rope bridge. (we are enjoy walking but all attractions are easily reached by road or local bus as well) John made booking the accomodation very easy and provided concise directions to the cottage for our arrival. There is a vast amount of literature about the area available in the cottage as well. I would certainly recommend the property to couples wishing to visit the Causeway coast. On our return to Belfast for our flight home, we drove the Antrm coastal route which is spectacular and not to be missed. I would also recommend Glenariff Forest Park and the waterfall walk. I am sure we will return to Ruby Stove Cottage
