Though I spent only a night over at Tabi-Shiro, I kind of wish I could've stayed another night and maybe more but I only could spent a night out of 2 over at Matsumoto.
That said, the hosts who greeted me upon my arrival were very kind and I enjoyed chatting with them. The hostel is mostly clean. The vibe was just as calm as it is fun. Personally, I enjoyed having drinks and conversing with the guests and the host at the bar.
The host will provide you with a pamphlet with guidelines and a map with points of interests. Most being a few steps away from the guesthouse.
The size of the bunks are good and offers some form of intimicy thanks to the curtains. Bunk rooms also come with a passcode so only the hosts and your roomates will have access. The hostel also provide a few small size lockers, somewhat deep and tall but narrow, to store small to mid personnal items you want safe such as a small bagpack/purse.
This said, if I booked early, I'd probably stay more nights at this charming guesthouse!
Nothing to note besides I wish I'd stay a tad bit longer!

Friendly staff & clean facility. The futon beds were surprisingly comfortable. Walking distance to train station & castle

Budget option with nice helpful staff and a short walk to most things.
The room stank (like wet straw/damp) we tried to air it out but it was very strong.
