The Griffin Inn

Amazing breakfast - delicious food and friendly staff. Very comfy clean rooms.

The Griffin Inn is a friendly pub in a residential suburb of St Helens. It was a good base for our visit to the area. The staff were friendly and helpful - everyone we encountered asked if we were OK and whether we were enjoying our stay and everything was well organised. Our room was clean, warm and comfortable with a generous hot drink tray (thank you for the hot chocolate). The whole pub is well kept with lovely outside areas for warmer weather, including a really great play area. We were there on a Saturday and the bar buzzy with families, couples and youngsters enjoying an evening out. We enjoyed a tasty, well cooked pub supper - we would especially recommend the pizza (and the onion rings!).

Clean and comfortable room with a good sized en suite bathroom. Good choice of food in the evening, either in the restaurant or at a table in the bar area. Good beer at reasonable prices and a very good breakfast. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Large car park

My only comment was that it was Saturday night and a packed pub with loud music. It was quite noisy until midnight but then calmed down.

The bed was comfortable and relaxing, and the room and bathroom were spacious, obviously well maintained, clean and tidy. The young lady personally accompanied to my room and was very polite. The bar was pleasant enough and parking was easy. The staff were as helpful as they could be. Really no issue with the accommodation.

The reasons for the low score for 'Facilities' and location' are as follows: I returned to the premises by taxi shortly before half past ten at night to find the place in complete darkness. I was told that last orders at the bar was at that time but that obviously wasn't the case - it was much earlier. The food I felt was over-priced; bangers and mash comprised three small sausages and a scoop of mash with dried onions and gravy (no peas) for £16. It wasn't particularly filling - more like a bar snack - and I had to eat again later on. The pub/restaurant is in a residential area and quite a way from St Helens centre and you would need a car to travel to the premises.
