This was my first time visiting the area and it was an adequate stay; the surroundings are lovely, the villages are fun to walk through and explore, and the staff was kind. However, I did encounter a few issues, and I think that some of the complications I experienced may be a result of the recent change in ownership at the hotel. I did voice a few concerns at checkout time to the front desk, but as I was in a hurry to leave, I was unable to think of a few others to note at the time and wanted to include for reference here.
1. When I went to brew my coffee, one of the coffee packets was completely opened/used and left on the counter with the kettle, so it was obvious this wasn't inspected and cleaned.
2. I went through the entire guide in the room twice with my phone translator (there is no English translation, which is completely fine and expected on my part, but other travelers may want to know) to find the WIFI info, as I depend on it for work while traveling. In the guide, it said to check with the front desk for the WIFI info. I had to go back down to ask for the sign-in info and was told it was in the room's guidebook (it wasn't). A slight miscommunication here and not a big deal - however, this should be an easy fix.
3. When checking in, the front desk was very nice, but I found the "upsell" of getting a different room a bit perplexing. I was told that if I paid more, I would receive a room with a "more comfortable bed". Oof - shouldn't all hotels and lodgings that we are paying significantly for have a comfortable bed at the very least?
4. The parking situation was also a bit confusing. When I arrived, I was told that I could park on the street free of charge until 9am (when you have to start paying). There were parking spaces in the lot that were available to other guests; however, this was full by the time I arrived. It wasn't clear if I could have used one of these spots, and I may have missed the parking notes during booking, but it would be helpful to note if the lot is indeed first-come, first-served.
5. I ordered the pork cheeks from the limited dinner menu after being told that the menu item I originally wanted was out; the waitress was not able to take my card as her machine was not working and advised it could be charged to my room - this was fine, but I noticed the price went up a bit on the item upon checkout.
6. This is not a fault of the hotel, but the guests next to my room were VERY loud.
