General Morgan Inn

The location was great and the parking was very good. The lobby area was wonderful and room was very spacious. It was clean, quiet, and the beds were very comfortable.

The bathroom was very out dated. The shower had no grab bars and the toilet was very low. This may not be a problem for most people, but as a older traveler, these items make a difference. Either install a walk in shower or have a soaking tub, but in any case, install grab bars. The breakfast offered was really not equal to the room. You needed to walk next door to a coffee shop with the best they had to offer for breakfast was the equivalent of a McDonalds egg mcmuffin - and a poor version at that. If they had opened their restaurant up for a breakfast, it would have been a real plus.

The property was beautiful, clean and beautifully decorated. It was so cool to stay in such an elegant historic hotel, but updated, yet keeping with the historic elements kept. Staff was friendly and helpful. May stay there again if in the area.

When my reservation was made, it included breakfast. So I expected a somewhat normal hotel breakfast but maybe more elegant. But they gave us vouchers for the coffee shop for $10.00. It was okay but we are not bagels kind of people.

Different

Parking is cumbersome and sometimes you have to look a space. While checking in, you have park roadside. First time is a bit of difficult. Call ahead and go to the backside , park and get in. Then you have to go back and put their parking tags

The building itself is spectacular; a member of the Historic Hotels of America group.

I chose this hotel based on 2 things. I was driving between 2 cities and (a) this was a good place to stop overnight. While it cost more than I normally spend, I was happy to see that (b) the breakfasts were excellent as I don't stop for lunch when travelling. Sadly, excellent breakfasts no longer exist. They are not only out-sourced to a connected third-party cafe, they are only subsidized. I got a credit of $7 toward breakfast. As a latte was $6, the cost of the egg mcmuffin sandwhich was mine to cover. In addition, the cafe has a religious theme - all the artwork and the music was in the name of our Lord. Which I found to be totally inappropriate. While the facility is impressive, the cost for what goes with it anymore is not.
