A beautiful C19th building, with much country charm. Spotless rooms and kind and attentive staff.
It’s difficult to understand their decision to no longer offer any form of breakfast on site. This causes disruption in the mornings as the closest provision is a significant walk away. Talk of excellent breakfasts in the previous reviews makes one wish for previous days …

The hotel has a charming, old-fashioned character. According to its history, it is now run by the second generation of the family. It has operated as Albergo Allegria for 44 years, while the building itself turns 134 this year. It feels as though it has been preserved in its original state—almost like a museum.
The staff were friendly, the bed was comfortable, and the bed linens were clean. The location is excellent, with restaurants, a gas station, and shops nearby, yet it was quiet and peaceful.
The furnishings and objects seem to have been collected over many years, and much of it is worn and dusty. The place feels like a cross between a museum and an antique shop.
Despite having a fully equipped kitchen, the hotel offers no breakfast, even for an additional charge. The communal setup, where everyone makes their own tea and coffee, feels more like a budget hostel. There was a food truck outside that apparently served breakfast, perhaps to fill that gap. It may be the off-season, but plenty of people still visit this area to enjoy the fall foliage.
The equipment in the room was very old, with instructions everywhere explaining how to use it: turn this, pull that, push here, and so on. And there was dust everywhere. The top of the wardrobe clearly had not been dusted in a long time.
I appreciate the owners’ desire to preserve the historic interior and its old-world atmosphere, but that needs to be matched by cleanliness and a traditional breakfast. I’m not sure I would stay here again. Still, even a disappointing stay is an experience to learn from. “The sign at reception says, ‘We live on the property, not at the front desk.’ We don’t live here at all—we’re paying guests who expect some service.”
