The beds are comfortable with tall headspace for lower bunks. It’s walking distance to major transport lines that will take you all over the city. It’s pretty inexpensive.

I’ve stayed in a lot of SF hostels; most are in old buildings and that’s beyond fine with me. Dilapidated is one thing, but a general feeling that there’s a lack of maintenance and care is a whole different animal. This was the first hostel that I put off showering until I left because the bathrooms are kinda gross. The shower walls may have been cleaned a decade ago, with obvious mold and mildew in the grout. Everything in this hostel feels dirty — everything in the kitchen needs to be rewashed before you can use it. I will say, at least there’s soap and sponges — Amsterdam Hostel, I’m looking at you. There are rats that frequent the patio, evident by droppings on literally all surfaces outdoors. Then there’s also the roaches, which I’ve found both in utensil drawers and on surfaces — I have photo proof. There are some travelers, but it seems to be mostly people staying long-term. This can lead to experiencing total weirdos or people who refuse to be socially appropriate, and since they’re there long-term, you may have to deal with someone loudly and aggressively ranting antisemitical and misogynistic bullshit at a loud volume, and then wind up having to keep passing them for over a week. Staff are nice, but honestly, it feels like everyone who works here has given up. I stayed here long enough to wonder if they owned a vacuum, as housekeeping would just sweep the carpet and I literally never once saw or heard a vacuum. That’s recently changed, but it still feels mostly like no one really cares. Bathrooms aren’t cleaned daily. Toilet seats are half-broken and slide when you sit. Everything feels dirty and funky, I’ll mention again. Most hostels have you strip your bed and bring the dirty linens back; this one has you leave everything on the bed. When I first stayed here, I didn’t know and I stripped my pillowcase and sheets. My pillow was…. grimy and disgusting beneath and I felt really icked out.

Good location (apart from homeless everywhere but that’s just SF) the decor was nice and the staff were brilliant and helpful

The property is fine but SF is just full of homeless and drug addicts who loiter everywhere and make the city feel unsafe when it’s stunning.
