Only a few things could be better than staying in the middle of Banff! The view are gorgeous and the crisp mountain air with scents of pine tree made being there a night in paradise for me. And the price is basically negligible compared to all other lodging options in Banff or Jasper!
If one has the expectation that this is a wilderness hostel that is off-grid and with only basic amenities there is little not to like. I think it is not impossible to install some power outlets while preserving the rustic feel.
After dark the hostel can be a bit hard to find as one has to walk through some trees from the parking area, after finding the parking area in the first place. If you end up in the campground you need to go back on the main road for a very short distance towards Banff.

Cheaper than most accomodations in the area.
Close to a river. Nice location.
It was not clear in the description that there are no toilet, only 'long hole'. No showers or hand basins to brush your teeth/ clean your hands.
