Amazing historic buildings surrounded by beautiful gardens, full of animal and bird life and a peaceful buffer from the busy road. Once inside the gates it feels like another world. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast had great variety and was delicious. Enjoyed swimming in the pool and relaxing in the garden or on the covered verandah of our room.
Our room was comfortable and fine for our stay. Small improvements like better sheets and attention to slight damp smell would be good but we were very happy overall.

The place itself is very interesting and has a good history.
Overall the place was good a few kinor issues like powercuts during our second night here. Also on the first day when we returned to the room we found out it has beem cleaned which is a good thing but the hotel should make it a practice to inform the guest so that their valuables are safe. Luckily we didnt have any valuables lying outside so it was all good.

Beautiful historical building. Great large swimming pool, and also another smaller pool in the lovely colonial-tropical inner yard. Monkeys and palm squirrels playing in the trees around the yard. Spacious rooms with good amenities. Great and attentive service and tasty breakfast. Not too far to walk to Unawatuna beach, good location to explore the nearby areas by tuktuk, and some supermarkets and restaurants also within a few hundred meters.
Some aspects of the rooms are a bit dated. I think it actually blends nicely to the atmosphere of the place, but just as a heads-up for anyone looking for super-luxury.

Lovely old building, kept clean, and beautiful grounds. Balcony overlooking the gardens. Good swimming pool.
I would describe the accommodation as faded elegance. Our room was comfortable but certainly needed an update. The balcony door had to be bolted as the closing mechanism did not work. The shower door was dated and did not close properly. The air conditioning is old and noisy.
The reception staff were efficient, but brusque.
Also, signs in the room in Russian reflects that at least half of the guests were Russian, in keeping with Unawatuna generally.
