About this house rental
Hello and welcome to the Kapitänshuis! An island home that doesn’t try to follow every trend—and that’s exactly what makes it so special. Here, Frisian living style, lovingly preserved details, and modern comforts come together to create an atmosphere that can’t simply be created. It has evolved over the years.
Spanning approximately 90 m², this charming vacation home accommodates up to four people and, above all, offers a genuine Sylt experience.
Even in the spacious living room, the Kapitänshuis reveals its unmistakable character. Old wooden floorboards, exposed ceiling beams, Frisian wall paneling, and the striking blue-and-white tiles set the scene for a wonderfully cozy living area. Modern furniture, carefully selected art, and lovingly curated one-of-a-kind pieces add exciting accents. The large corner sofa invites you to spend long evenings here—put your feet up, watch your favorite movie, and let the day on the island come to a relaxing close.
Right next door is the separate dining room. Here, too, wooden floorboards, historic details, and the unique furnishings create a special atmosphere. The large dining table offers plenty of space for leisurely breakfasts, shared dinners, or planning your next wonderful day on the island.
The separate kitchen is fully equipped. It includes a ceramic cooktop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and a separate freezer, as well as a coffee maker, electric kettle, and everything you need for relaxing evenings in the kitchen.
Two separate bedrooms with double beds are available for restful nights. Light colors, natural wood floors, and the characteristic lattice windows create a unique blend of Frisian coziness and a pleasantly airy atmosphere.
Particularly comfortable: The Kapitänshuis has two bathrooms. One is equipped with a walk-in shower and is accessible directly from one of the bedrooms. The second bathroom features a bathtub—perfect for truly unwinding after a long walk along the North Sea.
It’s also really lovely outside: The sheltered, green garden is a little retreat for relaxing moments in the open air. The furnished terrace is a wonderful place to have breakfast, read, or wind down the day with a glass of wine. A large umbrella provides pleasant shade on warm days—and of course, there’s one thing you can’t do without on Sylt: your very own beach chair. Nestled among the greenery, it’ll quickly become your favorite spot for quiet sunbathing, a good book, or simply doing nothing.
The enclosed property offers plenty of privacy and is especially pleasant when your four-legged companion is traveling with you. Dogs are warmly welcome at the Kapitänshuis. And once you’re sitting in your beach chair, letting your gaze wander through the garden and seeing the thatched roof peeking out from behind the greenery, that island feeling is complete.
Typical of traditional Frisian architecture are the ceilings, which are sometimes lower, and the smaller doors. What makes modern houses as spacious and linear as possible is part of the original charm here. That’s something you should know—and it’s exactly what you have to like. If you’re looking for a generic designer vacation home, this probably isn’t the place for you. On the other hand, if you love creaking wooden floorboards, lattice windows, old beams, Frisian details, and rooms with character, you might just find your new favorite home on Sylt at the Kapitänshuis.
Wi-Fi and TV are, of course, also included. Overall, the house spans two floors and blends the past and present in a wonderfully imperfect way.
The Kapitänshuis is not an off-the-shelf house. It’s Frisian, unique, cozy, and wonderfully distinctive—truly a piece of Sylt.
