The Space:

Jiro West was designed and built by its owner, an artist, carpenter and architect, on five private acres in Landers. Clean lines, vaulted ceilings, polished concrete floors, woodwork and large windows give it a modern, minimalist feel, with subtle Japanese-inspired elements and bold red accents. Outside are a fenced lap-style pool, a hot tub, connected hammocks and patios with wide desert and mountain views. With two king bedrooms, it suits couples and small groups of up to four. Cook something simple in the cast iron and eat at the Nakashima-inspired stools.

-Outdoor Amenities-

The lap-style pool sits in a fully fenced section of the property, with a tanning shelf for lounging in the water, gravel surrounds, sun loungers and open desert views. Just off the patio, the six-person hot tub offers a more private place to soak, and a line of connected hammocks is a spot to read or take in the landscape. A front patio bistro set and a covered patio with lounge seating, outdoor dining and a propane BBQ round out the outdoor spaces. Beyond the pool, the 5 acres stay wide and natural, with mountain views, long sunsets and clear night skies.



-Living Area-

The open living area has high ceilings and large sliding glass doors to the patio. It is simple and uncluttered, with books and board games for slow mornings and quiet evenings.



-Kitchen and Dining-

The compact kitchen opens to the dining and living areas, with barstool seating and Nakashima-inspired stools. It has an induction stove, cast iron cookware, spices, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and utensils. For coffee, there is a drip coffee maker, French press, grinder and Joshua Tree Coffee Co. whole beans, plus sugars and a variety of tea. The dining area connects to the patio for meals outside.



-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Both bedrooms have king beds, large windows and custom-built corner desks, with warm wood tones throughout. The bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower and individual cube storage units. A compact washer-dryer combo is available.



-Surrounding Area-

Landers offers a quieter, more open high desert experience, with Joshua Tree National Park for hiking and rock formations. Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley have local cafes and small shops, and the area is known for its open space, mountain views and clear night skies.



Guest Access:

The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.



Please note that the first two closets in the right bedroom, along with the Airstream, shipping container and loft area, are used for property supplies and are not accessible to guests.

A personal vehicle is necessary to get around in this area - rideshare apps are not guaranteed.



Other Things to Note:

-House-Specific Rules-

► Please avoid using the hot tub right after it has been serviced, while chemical levels are temporarily higher.



-Pool Heating Fee-

Should you wish to have the pool heated to 85 degrees, please notify us in advance of your arrival, as there will be a supplemental charge per day for this service due to high fuel costs in this area. If you'd like the pool heated for multiple days, we ask that days be consecutive to conserve energy, thank you! Pool heating is not usually necessary May through September. Please note that we will need at least 24 hours' notice to heat the pool.

During the winter months, please be aware that colder outdoor temperatures may cause the pool to feel cooler than its maintained temperature of 85°F. We kindly ask that you ensure this temperature meets your comfort level before submitting a request, as refunds cannot be issued on this basis.



-Hot Tub-

No fee to heat the hot tub!



-Pool and Hot Tub Service-

The pool and hot tub are serviced Thursdays, approximately between 9am and 4pm. Please note that these times are estimates and may change slightly due to our technician's busy schedule. He will not approach the house but will go directly through to the backyard.



-Pet Policy-

We welcome your dogs! There is a $100 per dog per stay fee, limit of 2 dogs maximum. Please note on your reservation how many dogs you are bringing. There is an unauthorized pet fee of $500. Please use the provided dog sheets before allowing your dogs on any furniture. Cats and other pets are not allowed.

-Wildlife & Safety-

The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it's important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.



-Security Camera-

There are exterior cameras monitoring the driveway and exterior of the property for security and occupancy verification purposes, located at the front gate and at the front door facing the driveway. There are no cameras facing interior spaces or private areas such as the pool.



-Cell Service-

Cell phone coverage in the area may be limited or unavailable depending on your carrier. Wi-Fi is available at the property.



-Damage Waiver Policy-

Each reservation requires either a refundable security deposit or a non-refundable damage waiver.
