Apartment not fit for purpose, booked other acommodation
The apartment is a rented council flat in a block which is not fit for purpose, the tv's didn't work, and when arriving after dark there is no lighting, and we stood in dog mess. There is a strong smell of cannabis throughout the apartment and building, as well as the building itself not feeling safe. We had sign written vans and a truck outside which we didn't feel safe leaving in the area also. In the end we had to find different accommodation, and whilst in contact with the owners, we weren't able to get a partial refund which we felt was a reasonable request, due to poorly behaved neighbours playing music until 03:00. The owners did advise they would attempt to rectify the issues and help troubleshoot the TV's, though I don't know how they would do with as there was no working Wi-Fi, and the Tv's has no antenna/aerial plugged in. Overall, the stay was very poor, we paid £500+ for a weeks lodging and only had one night of broken sleep in a terrible smelling apartment whilst worrying if our vans would be safe, which ended up costing us over £1000+ after booking other accommodation.

Prior to my arrival, I specifically contacted the landlord to confirm that the apartment was on the first floor, as I was travelling with a member of my party who has a medical issue and required accommodation on the ground floor or, at maximum, the first floor. On arrival, I discovered that the apartment was actually on the second floor. I then found multiple problems within the property, including a broken kitchen unit, a leaking shower, a fallen curtain and, most seriously, a broken and unsafe bed, which left us without a suitable sleeping arrangement. Despite repeatedly contacting the landlord and Booking.com Customer Service, I was unable to obtain an effective and timely resolution. I was repeatedly asked to wait for the landlord to respond or repair the bed, despite the landlord repeatedly failing to respond, and I was given assurances regarding relocation and callbacks that were not followed through. I also had to postpone my plans, leave the property much later than intended and experienced significant disruption and loss of sleep after travelling for approximately eight hours. What concerns me most is that a clear health, safety and suitability issue was not treated with the urgency it warranted, while I was repeatedly required to explain the same situation to different members of the Customer Service team. My complaint therefore extends beyond the condition of the accommodation itself; it concerns the inaccurate information provided before my stay, the failure to provide safe and suitable accommodation, the landlord’s lack of response, the repeated delays and assurances from Booking.com that were not fulfilled, and the overall failure to take ownership of the situation and provide an appropriate resolution.
