A cute exterior masking a dirty, low-ceilinged nightmare with completely unresponsive owners
The cottage itself looks very charming, cute and authentic from the outside, which gives a lovely first impression.
Unfortunately, the reality inside was a total nightmare due to a severe lack of cleanliness and basic maintenance. Upon arrival, we were hit by a strong, musty smell of mold. The property was filthy: there were thick cobwebs and dead insects everywhere, visible coffee stains left on the tables, a heavily frosted freezer, and disgusting food packaging leftovers from previous guests still sitting in the kitchen.
Furthermore, the layout is completely impractical. The ceiling height is a major issue. The description from Sykes stating 'limited head height' is a severe understatement; even at just 1.67m, I repeatedly hit my head and hands against the ceiling in both the bathroom and the bedrooms.
On top of that, the house suffers from chronic maintenance issues. The lights did not work properly, and the kitchen tap was highly temperamental. When the tap inevitably caused a leak, the owners unhelpfully and wrongfully blamed me for the damage rather than fixing their faulty plumbing.
Customer service was non-existent. Before our arrival, it took them an unacceptable 6 days just to respond to a simple date change request. After we decided to cut our holiday short and stay elsewhere due to these unlivable conditions, we texted our complaints directly and lodged an official complaint through Booking.com. To this day, the owners have completely ignored us, offering zero response, apologies, or explanations. Do not stay here.
