The Schmiedhof is located in the idyllic farming village of Aufham, a district of the municipality of Eggstätt in the heart of the Chiemgau region. Its elevated location offers a magnificent view of the surrounding Alpine foothills. On clear days, the view stretches from the impressive Kampenwand over the Chiemgau Alps all the way to the picturesque Lake Pelham. The region is one of the most beautiful recreational areas in Upper Bavaria. Eggstätt is particularly well-known for the Eggstätt-Hemhofer Lake District—Germany’s oldest nature reserve. Numerous hiking and biking trails wind through a unique landscape of lakes, marshes, forests, and rolling hills. Within just a few minutes, you can reach Lake Hartsee with its popular swimming spots and crystal-clear water. Lake Chiemsee, the “Bavarian Sea,” is only about a ten-minute drive away and invites you to enjoy boat tours, water sports, or excursions to Herreninsel with the famous Herrenchiemsee Palace. The region also offers numerous options for active vacationers: hiking, biking, mountain biking, golf, swimming, or—in winter—cross-country skiing and downhill skiing in the nearby Alps. The Schmiedhof looks back on a long and eventful history. As a former ¼-Schmiedhof, it was under the manorial authority of Seeon Abbey until 1803. The first documented mention dates back to 1532, when Christian Miterer was named as the farm’s owner. In 1794, the farm was expanded to include the so-called “Schmidzubau,” before it was officially designated as the “Schmiedhof” in 1803.The farm has been continuously family-owned for more than 200 years and has been managed across generations. Active farming shaped the property for many decades and made the farm an integral part of village life in Aufham. Since 1998, there has been no active farming, and dairy cattle raising was discontinued. When Hans Georg Blank took over the farm in 2020, the property faced major challenges: the roof was no longer watertight, the walls were damp, and the barn was in danger of collapsing. After careful consideration, the decision was made to undertake a comprehensive renovation with partial new construction. It was particularly important to us to preserve the character of the historic farm.
