Nice location, but not ready for primetime or the high price
My husband and I really wanted to love this property. We paid a premium for what we hoped would be a dream stay in Milos, right on the beach. The apartment is cute, well furnished, and in a beautiful location, but for nearly $1,000 per night, the maintenance and communication issues were hard to overlook.
TLDR:
- Broken toilet seat for almost our entire stay
- Very limited hot water, as in not enough for two short showers
- Septic/shower issue disclosed as we were flying to Milos
- Local property manager did not respond to any of our messages
- Same local property manager showed up unannounced at 9:30 p.m. on our first night
- Poor coordination between the owner and local manager
- Maintenance problems were repeatedly explained away or blamed on others rather than simply resolved
- After we tried to resolve things privately, the owner asked us not to leave a review
The problems started before we arrived. While we were on the way to the airport, the owner (Christina) messaged us saying not to use the shower until the next morning because the previous guests had supposedly filled the septic tank. She also said they had broken the toilet seat, but that it would be fixed before our arrival.
The septic issue was resolved before we got there. The toilet seat was not.
For almost our entire stay, the seat was not actually attached to the toilet bowl. It slid around whenever you sat on it, forcing you to balance carefully or hover, like we were at some gross public restroom. It was finally replaced on our last night, but even the replacement still moved and was also the wrong size.
The shower also had very limited hot water. Even when we conserved water by turning it off while soaping up, there still was not enough hot water for two short showers.
Communication was another problem. Christina lives in another country, and we communicated with her through WhatsApp.
(contd.) Georgia did not respond to a single message we sent. Though she did show up at our door unannounced around 9:30 pm on our first night. Like you, we wondered why Georgia couldn't download WhatsApp to not reply to us on that platform, too.
There also seemed to be poor coordination between the Christina and Georgia. Even simple questions were difficult to get answered. Later, we were told a plumber could not fix the toilet because we were not there to let him in. First, we would never want to waste vacation time waiting for a maintenance man. Second, no one asked us to wait for him either. We would have declined and told them to just fix it without us present, but this was part of the pattern of Christina blaming her guests. Christina said on another night that the plumber and Georgia arrived at 8:30 pm and waited for us until 9:30 pm, but since we didn't arrive they left and didn't fix the toilet. We didn't have an appointment for one, but for another, we returned to the apartment at 9:15 pm and even texted Georgia at 9:28 pm to say the toilet still wasn't fixed. It was a frustrating mess.
We tried several times to resolve these issues privately with Christina. Her final response was to ask us to not to leave a review. Given our experience, we felt it was important to share one so future guests could make an informed decision.
Milos is fantastic, and the beach here is beautiful. The apartment itself is also nice enough. But at nearly $1,000 per night, inadequate hot water, a broken toilet seat for most of the stay, poor maintenance, and unresponsive owner and local manager are simply not acceptable.
There are other properties nearby, and based on our experience, we would recommend looking at those instead.
