Worst experience ever. Please avoid this apartment!
The worst stay I have ever booked through Booking.com
We paid a very high price for three nights in this New York apartment, travelling with our two children. What we experienced was an unacceptable combination of poor hygiene, faulty facilities and appalling communication.
The apartment was dirty throughout. There were opened food packages and leftovers in both the refrigerator and freezer. The plates and cutlery were dirty, so we had to run the dishwasher ourselves before we could use them. The floors were sticky. Having to clean basic kitchen equipment on arrival is unacceptable at any price, let alone what we paid for this accommodation. The dishwasher also leaked water onto the kitchen floor, leaving us to mop it all up ourselves.
The bathroom had serious problems. The toilet did not flush properly, and the water ran continuously. The shower was blocked, and we could not shower for two days, until someone finally came to fix it. Being unable to shower for two days during a short, expensive stay with children is inexcusable. The curtains in the main bedroom also fell down twice.
Communication with the property was chaotic and extremely frustrating. Instead of dealing directly with me through one clear point of contact, they added me to a WhatsApp group with six other people. Different people kept sending messages, with no clear coordination or effective resolution of the issues. Despite our complaints, nobody ever came to clean the apartment. When they eventually arranged to fix the shower, I had to spend more than two hours at the apartment waiting for them to arrive and complete the repair. This should have been organised without requiring me to sacrifice part of our time in New York to supervise maintenance that should never have been necessary during our stay.
We paid for a clean, functional apartment in which to enjoy a family holiday. Instead, we spent our time cleaning, mopping up water, reporting faults, chasing responses and waiting for repairs.
