Poor location vis-à-vis Chicago; noisy apartment, rather devoid of charm.
Clean, albeit small apartment. Free parking in safe neighborhood. Located in downtown Downers Grove, which is small but rather charming.
The host bills the location of this apartment as being "...built for commuters and business travelers. Walk to the Metra for a direct line into Chicago." Relying on that description, I booked this apt. for my 3-day attendance at an expo being held in McCormick Place, which is in the South Loop, about a mile from downtown central Chicago. It took me 2.5 hours one way to get to the expo center, the one day I tried it. That's during rush hour, when there are more (bumpy) trains and fewer stops. Metra (commuter rail) doesn't go directly to the expo center. One has to walk to the Chicago metro from Union Station, then walk again to the center. I drove from the apt. to the Expo center the next day. It took one hour outside of rush hour, not counting finding parking, which added another half hour. In short, I missed important meetings because of the location of this apt.
Other things I didn't like:
• Host should have sent the door entry code in advance without me having to ask for it. After he didn't respond to two emails and a call, I called the booking platform because it was the day of my check-in. After that, he was very accessible by phone. But the code didn't work on the front door, only the rear one.
• All the windows only had blinds, so it was impossible to make the room dark for sleep. Fortunately, I'd brought my eye mask.
• Apt. was noisy, with sounds of trains and a repairman fixing the washing machine in the mornings.
• Apt. decor was rather devoid of charm, with somewhat cheap furniture. I know that is subjective, but it's what I think.
